Taste of India (TOI) is an initiative for the immigrant population to blend into their adopted homeland by reinventing their roots in the context of the new culture. Growing from a brief performance in a small multicultural show to a full production over the last 13 years, Taste of India' has gradually become an institution in the City of Darebin, encompassing other ethnic groups than its name implies. TOI has been exploring Darebin City's diverse ethnicity in a dynamic manner as part of the annual Darebin Music Feast to promote the vibrant independent music scene in the City. The Victorian Government has a steadfast policy to provide Victorians, all the background & opportunity to experience a rich multicultural heritage and has stood by TOI's growth generously.

Friday, 28 October 2016 @ 7.30 PM, Darebin Arts Centre, Preston, Taste of India proudly present Music Feast theme of expert Harmonized voices and Orchestra, International & Australian Artists with over 80 participants. This event organized to support The Starlight Children’s Foundation.

History of Taste of India

A collective initiative & passionate vision of a few, saw the inception of ‘Taste of India’ in 2001 which has since been a colossal success showcasing artistic and aesthetic qualities of Indian culture. Students of Sivaganga Sahathevan - the Founder / Co ordinator of TOI & Chandrabanu’s Bharathalaya, along with classical Indian performing art professionals from Australia have collaborated to expand their knowledge & skills with this event. Over the years, several internationally renowned Indian artists have been invited to perform in Melbourne by the ‘Taste of India’ committee. Today TOI is a significant event in Melbourne’s Darebin Music Feast that fosters the vibrant growth of the independent music & art scene in Melbourne. With more than a hundred participants ranging from age three to sixty from Darebin and its constituent areas like Preston, Reservoir, Bundoora, Thornbury, Millpark, Epping and other parts it marks the great multiculturalism of the City of Darebin, enriching its secular nature. .
